Report - VW could build a Seat SUV in Skoda's Czech Republic plant from 2016
If approved by the VW board, Seat's new SUV would most probably be built at Skoda's manufacturing facility in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. It's likely that it will share an assembly line with the Yeti.
Europe has seen a boom in the SUV segment thanks to competitive models from various brands. However, Seat has lacked one till now. It had, at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, displayed the IBX concept. The upcoming SUV, if put into production, is likely to take design cues from the concept.
A couple of days ago, Seat's head of R&D, spoke to WhatCar? confirming that a Nissan Qashqai rivalling SUV based on the Seat Leon was developed and that it was pending approval from the VW board. If approved, this could go on sale in 2016.
The report continues to say that there are two other SUVs planned. There's one that is likely to rival the Nissan Juke, based on the Seat Ibiza, and a larger SUV.
Ever since the Leon compact car was introduced, Seat's sales have risen considerably. Along with the Mii minicar and the Toledo compact, Seat has sold close to 242,487 units till the end of October this year. That's a 10 percent increase on sales over the last year when the market has dropped by 3 percent over the period, according to the European industry association ACEA.
