Skoda benchmarks sales of Citigo with the Hyundai i10; Hopes to dispatch 8,000 units
The Skoda Citigo's availability in the Indian market is a big unknown at this time as Volkswagen India is still studying the Up!'s feasibility for the Indian market. The Citigo is to the Up! what the Rapid is to the Vento.
But over in Europe, Skoda managers are bubbling with optimism. Listen to what one of them had to say recently to Just Auto.
Skoda's product marketing manager Chris Horrell -
If Hyundai is selling 20,000 i10s, selling 8,000 Citigos should be a walk in the park.
On our Facebook page we have been asking our fans if the Skoda Citigo has to come to India and some feel it could be a smaller alternative to the Swift. The car's styling and the anticipated value it brings, compared to the VW counterpart model, has caught their fancy.
Skoda has worked on the Up!'s design to shift its identity. It is introducing 'GreenTech' models (BlueMotion counterpart) fitted with Start-Stop motors that the company hopes will reduce fuel consumption by 9%. Other fuel-saving techniques such as brake energy regeneration and low rolling resistance tires are also in the mix.
The Citigo is powered by a tiny 1-liter engine that produces three outputs varying with the variants - 60 PS and 75 PS both having CO2 emissions under 100 g/km on the GreenTech variants. These help owners save on registration and congestion charges in countries that impose them on motorists.
