Skoda has boosted production of the Skoda Fabia and Skoda Rapid Spaceback to meet the higher demand.

The addition of the third shift has added 800 new jobs at the Mlada Boleslav plant.

Skoda says the new model range is doing “exceptionally well” in the market, and the factory in Mlada Boleslav is now functioning 24 hours a day, producing 1,200 vehicles a day over three shifts. Previously the plant was making 800 cars in a two-shift arrangement.

The company also announced that the extra shift has added 800 new jobs.

Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda's Production Director -

Our production is at full throttle - especially at our main plant in Mladá Boleslav. Over the coming years, ŠKODA plans to increase sales to at least 1.5 million per year. To this end, we will continue to invest in our domestic and international production capacities.

Despite the energetic market response in Europe, the Fabia will not be launched in India.

Skoda adds that the Rapid Spaceback, that premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 with four petrol and two diesel engines, has taken the market by storm, selling 72,000 units in 2014. Meanwhile the newer Fabia introduced at the Paris Motor Show last year, comes in four petrol and three diesel engine options, and is based on a mixed MQB Platform. The Fabia estate version also premiered at the show.

Mr. Pawel Szuflak, Director for Sales and Marketing for Skoda Auto India, told IAB late last year that the new Fabia is not being considered for India, and that its "first model" would be the Skoda Rapid.
