Skoda Auto has released the design sketches of the Vision RS concept ahead of the world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. The design study is an antecedent to the second generation Skoda Rapid for the Old Continent. The concept will make its stage debut alongside the Kodiaq RS at the Parisian exhibition.

An Auto Express scoop story that broke in March said that the second generation Rapid would come exclusively in the hatchback body type, with the Liftback going no further. The RS badge on the concept is a giveaway that Czech boardroom is having serious discussions to green-light an entry-level high performance Skoda.

Underpinning the production version will be the longer version of the MQB A0 platform, the first for a Skoda, and should lead to ground gained in handling and safety.

The Skoda Vision RS could serve as a precursor to not just the new Rapid which is transitioning to a family hatchback, but the future vRS vehicles.

Going by the concept car's dimensions, the 2020 Skoda Rapid will be larger than a Volkswagen Golf. The Vision RS concept measures 4,356 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,431 mm in height. The teaser images show a five-door hatchback with well-sculpted sheetmetal, bold creases, large wheels, centrally mounted exhaust, and sleek LED headlamps.
