Korea - Ssangyong Korando C facelift launched

07/08/2013 - 17:35 ,   Shrawan Raja

Following countless spyshots and leaks, Ssangyong has said enough is enough! The Mahindra owned Korean utility vehicles major has conducted the launch of the Ssangyong Korando C facelift in Korea today with a spade of overall improvements. This is the first major change since the product launched in 2011.

The facelift's front gets redesigned projector headlamps with LED guide lights.

We couldn't depute someone to bring you live feeds but we have all the details packed into this post.

Let's start with the exterior - The Korando C refresh features projector headlights with a black bezel and LED position lights. The grille is body colored, and there are chrome trimmings present around the front fascia.

The only changes to the rear are the C-shaped guide light on the stoplight cluster and the embossed 'Korando C' lettering. There aren't any noticeable differences to the side profile save for the new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Changes to the rear are comparatively mild, with freshly detailed taillights and new 18-inch alloy wheels the only differences.

Moving indoors, the redesigned Korando gets a new instrument panel, wood grain finish around the cabin and soft-touch materials on the upper dashboard. The front seat is equipped with an "invisible airbag" (do they mean chest level airbags without the airbag tags?) and gets forced ventilation with a two-level fan speed. In some trim levels, customers can opt for red leather seats wherein door trims, center console and floor mats are also red in color.

Going under the hood, the efficiency of the powertrain is up by 8.4% in 'Eco' driving mode (the other being the 'Sport' mode), revising the fuel economy upwards to 12.8 kpl in 2WD (Automatic Transmission). The manual transmission variant gets a class-leading fuel efficiency of 17.2 kpl in 2WD, in the Korean driving cycle.

Noise and vibration levels have been contained further by changing the engine mounting system and the rigidity of the sub-frame.

Dashboard gets a new wood grain finish and central console. Customers can specify the car with red colored leather interiors.

Heading over to the features, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is new. A new 7-inch touch screen infotainment system features 3D maps and streams music through a Harman music system. The Smart key system comes even on the lower variants.

The warranty on the Korando has been increased from two years/40,000km to three years/60,000km for the body and general parts. Powertrain warranty is now five years /100,000km.

The Korando C refresh is launched in three trim levels (6 sub-trim levels in all). You can view the press release on Page 2 for additional details. Prices for the New Korando C have not been announced yet.
