Ssangyong Tivoli compact SUV launched in Korea – IAB Report

Mahindra owned SsangYong Motor launched the Tivoli compact SUV, in Seoul, Korea, this morning. Present at the launch were Anand Mahindra - Mahindra Group Chairman, and Yoo-Il Lee - CEO of SsangYong.

The Tivoli measures 4,195 mm long, 1,795 mm wide, 1,590 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.

The compact SUV from SsangYong is based on the XIV Air and XIV Adventure concepts showcased at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Tivoli is named after an Italian town and is the first completely new product to be developed after M&M took over the South Korean SUV maker.

SsangYong launched the Tivoli at a starting price of 16.3 million Won (INR 9.1 lakh). It is built on a new X100 platform which absorbed an investment of around 350 billion Won (INR 1999.2 crores). The company expects to sell around 1 lakh units of the compact SUV in the first year.

The company plans to sell 100,000 units of the Tivoli in the first year.

Power for the Tivoli comes from the new e-XGi 160, a 1.6 litre petrol engine that delivers 124 bhp and 157 Nm of torque and is mated with a manual as well as a automatic transmission. The company claims the mileage to be 12.3 km/l for the manual and 12 km/l for the automatic.

Ssangyong will start Tivoli exports to markets like Europe, China and Latin America initially and also has plans to enter the U.S. market with it in future.
