IAB Report - Ssangyong releases sketch of its EcoSport rival; Geneva debut announced

Mahindra owned Ssangyong has announced that it will unveil its new XLV concept (eXciting smart Lifestyle Vehicle) at this year’s Geneva Motor Show which commences for the media on March 4.

The company announced that the XLV is 290 mm longer than the XIV-1 concept that preceded it (at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show). The XLV coming to the Geneva Motor Show will feature seating for seven passengers in a 2+2+2+1 arrangement. However, Ssangyong will also be doing a five-seater version of the XLV, which will rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Juke and the Peugeot 2008.

Underpinned on a new platform co-developed with parent Mahindra, the XLV concept measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, 1,600 mm in height and 2,600 mm in wheelbase. The "innovative" seven seater will have its seventh seat slide between the second and third rows.

The concept will use a diesel hybrid powertrain which combines a 1.6-liter diesel engine with an electric motor powered by a lithium ion battery.

Production of the XLV (in both 5-seater and 7-seater variants) is slated to commence in 2015. We believe Ssangyong has earmarked the XLV for markets such as India, where demand for B-Segment SUVs is on the rise.
