UK - India-made Suzuki Alto and Grand Vitara axed for 2015
Fate unclear globally for both models.
According to Auto Express, Suzuki GB has confirmed the axing the Grand Vitara SUV and the Alto supermini in the UK. The A-Star (discontinued in India) made at Maruti's Manesar plant, is badged as the Alto and exported worldwide.
Once the existing lot of Grand Vitaras are sold from British dealerships, which is expected to happen by the end of the year, Suzuki will pull the plug on their flagship SUV, with no promise of a future successor. This makes the newcomer SX4 S-Cross the biggest vehicle that a Suzuki customer can currently purchase.
However the Vitara name will still exist, in the form of a new compact crossover that was recently announced. Suzuki will take the wraps off the crossover at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
The other car under the axe is the Alto supermini. Suzuki GB will cease sales by next spring (March), which coincides with the market launch of the Celerio. But unlike the Alto, the Celerio will be sourced from Suzuki's Thai factory.
