As seen in the table above, the sales showed promising numbers in the first few months since the launch of the Intruder. The numbers peaked in February 2018 before they started to go downhill, reaching the zero mark in the last two months. The fall in sales began in March 2018, which is when Suzuki introduced the fuel-injected variant of the Intruder. At launch, the fuel-injected Suzuki Intruder carried a premium of approximately INR 7,000 over the carburettor model and was priced at INR 1.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company tried to revive sales with the launch of the Special Edition, the Intruder SP in September 2018. The Suzuki Intruder SP was launched in both, carburettor and fuel-injected variants and was priced at INR 1,00,500 and INR 1,07,300 – both ex-showroom – respectively. The SP edition received a metallic matte black paint with a red accent that was targeted to give the motorcycle a unique look. Apart from the new colour, the Intruder SP came equipped with a pillion backrest as standard. However, the special edition could not boost sales, and the numbers continued to tumble.
Meanwhile, scooters are clocking promising numbers for the Indian arm of the Japanese two-wheeler brand. The Suzuki Access took over the TVS Jupiter to become India’s second largest selling scooter for January 2019. While the TVS Jupiter (48,688 units sold) has reclaimed the second spot for February 2019, the Suzuki Access (48,265 units sold) isn’t too far away at third. The Access 125 registered a 24 per cent growth in year-on-year sales for February 2019, clocking 48,265 unit sales as against 39,061 in the corresponding month last year.
