Tata Altroz name announced for production-spec Tata 45X
Tata Motors has put an end to the name guessing game and announced that the production-spec Tata 45X is called ‘Tata Altroz’. The new model will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that will run from 5-17 March.
The name Altroz is inspired by the magnificent bird ‘Albatross’. The Tata Altroz will debut the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Architecture that was originally announced as the Advanced Modular Platform. Conceptualised under the IMPACT 2.0 design language, it will look the most dynamic production hatchback ever from the homegrown automaker.
Key design features of the Tata Altroz will include sleek headlamps and tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, concealed rear door handles in the C-pillar, semi-digital instrument panel and freestanding central display.
Tata Motors will offer the Altroz with a brand-new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine and a turbocharged diesel engine, likely a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit. In addition to a manual transmission, the company will likely offer an all-new dual-clutch automatic transmission, as an option. The petrol engine is said to feature mild-hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency.
Tata Motors will launch the Altroz in the middle of the year, most likely in June or July. The new hatchback will replace the slow-selling Bolt and compete with the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz. Its prices are likely to start between INR 5-5.50 lakh (ex-showroom). A sedan version would follow in 2020, going against the Hyundai Verna and the likes.
