The automobile industry in India is seeing a slow-down, but Tata Motors is bullish on its expansion plans. The company is promising an array of launches in the near future, including three all-new models.

The Tata H2X Concept's production version will be positioned below the Tata Nexon.

As recently announced, Tata Motors will be coming up with three new products in the near future. The first will be the Altroz, the second will be the Buzzard (final name TBA) and the third will be the production version of the H2X Concept. The H2X Concept's production version, internally known as the Tata Hornbill, will have a lot in common with the Altroz. Both will be based on the ALFA-Arc (AMP) and use high-levels of shared components.

"Altroz is a premium hatch and H2X is a small-size SUV. What if I tell you that these two vehicles have a commonality of more than 70%? We will build economies of scale delivering commonality but in order to bring differentiation, design plays a crucial role," Tata Motors' CEO and Managing Director, Guenter Butschek, told Fortune India recently.

The H2X Concept measures 3,840 mm in length, 1,822 mm in width and 1,636 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. The production version will have similar dimensions. Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors, had said earlier this year that as much as 70-80% of the design is ready to go into production. The production model will employ the Tata Altroz's 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine. This unit will likely be available with 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual transmission choices.

The Tata H2X will be manufactured at the Sanand plant.
