Tata Motors CEO confirms CY2019 launch for H7X SUV - Report

Last year, reports pointed at an early 2020 launch for the Tata H7X, the Tata Harrier’s three-row version. Now, Guenter Butschek, MD & CEO, Tata Motors, has confirmed that the launch will take place this year.

The Tata H7X will look a little less sporty than the Tata Harrier (pictured) featuring a conventional roofline.

According to a report from Autocar India, Butschek has said that the “firework of launches in (the) calendar year 2019” will include the H7X. Tata Motors will launch it as a separate product with a different name.

The Tata H7X will look a little less sporty than the Tata Harrier. Adding the third-row of seats will require stretching the body, and this will have an effect on the floating roof design. The report says that the three-row version will have the same wheelbase (2,741 mm) but a 62 mm longer rear overhang. This means that the more family-oriented version will have a length of 4,660 mm. It will likely feature a bigger quarter glass too.

The Tata H7X will employ a 170 PS version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine, which is basically FCA’s 2.0-litre MultiJet II engine. A trademark application unearthed by IAB suggests that the more powerful version will come with a distinctive branding - Kryotec170. It will comply with the more stringent BSVI emission norms right from the beginning. Transmission choices will include the 6-speed manual unit from the Tata Harrier and a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit licensed from Hyundai.

The 170 PS 2.0-litre Kroytec diesel engine and the 6-speed automatic transmission of the Tata H7X will make it to the Tata Harrier at a later stage.

The Tata H7X will have the same wheelbase as the Tata Harrier (2,741 mm) but a 62 mm longer rear overhang.

Prices of the Tata H7X will likely start between INR 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).
