Born in 1968, the Toyota Hilux has been dominating the pickup market for over 50 years now with a cumulative global sale of over 16 million vehicles. The 8th generation Toyota Hilux, displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in European specification, benefits from the new GD series engines, new and stronger ladder chassis, a reinforced deck structure, enhanced 4x4 capabilities and improved towing capacity. With the growth in the leisure pickup segment, Toyota has made a move in the right direction with the Hilux featuring a rugged yet contemporary design, better comfort, advanced equipment and improved safety.

The interior is more spacious and according to Toyota, provide a passenger-car like NVH levels. The safety features include high strength, impact-absorbing structure, comprehensive brake control system with ABS, EBD, VSC and Trailer Sway Control (TSC). Adding to the convenience are the Active Traction Control (ATC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-Start Assist (HSA) that further enhance the 4x4 capabilities.

The 2016 Hilux, which was unveiled last year, features a bigger and more practical cargo deck with an improved towing capacity of 3.2 tons. Under the hood is an option of two engines, the 2.4 and 2.8 four-cylinder turbo diesel. Toyota predicts the new Hilux to surpass its old sales record with a sale of 40,000 units per annum in Europe.
