IAB Report - Vespa S begins arriving at Indian dealers [Update - Launch on March 4]
We've received word from official sources that Piaggio will introduce the Vespa S on the 4th of March.
As Indian Autos Blog reported last year, the Piaggio Group will soon launch the Vespa S (Vespa Sport) in India. The Vespa S was showcased in India for the first time at the Auto Expo 2014, and dealer dispatch of the scooter has now commenced.
Seen here is the Vespa S at a dealer showroom. Given that the scooter has already begun arriving at dealerships, we expect the official launch to take place in a few days. The Vespa S will be priced and positioned above the top-end Vespa VX variant. The Vespa VX costs INR 71,380 (ex-Showroom, New Delhi) and the Vespa S will be priced at about INR 4,000 more, according to sources.
The scooter will be available in four body colors - Orange, Matte Black, White and Red - three of which are seen in the image above. For further differentiation, the front suspension coil is painted in red.
Compared to the regular Vespa's circular headlights and wing mirrors, the Vespa S has them in the shape of a square. At the rear, the taillight on the Sport is positioned a bit above compared to the regular Vespa. While the three-spoke alloy wheels are the same as the normal Vespa, the S gets them powder coated.
Other changes on the S include a different instrument cluster design and an exposed glovebox. Power for the Vespa S comes from the familiar single-cylinder, 125 cc, 3v engine which produces 10.06 PS and 10.6 Nm of torque.
