New York Live - Volvo displays R-Design versions of S60, V60 and XC60

Volvo has unveiled new R-Design versions of the S60, the V60 and the XC60 at the New York Auto Show.

The new range of R-Design models is based on Volvo's refreshed range showcased at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. Volvo say that these cars have a driver focused engine and chassis.

All the three R-Design models have the redesigned nose with frameless Tech Matte Black grill which bears high gloss black strips and the traditional silk metal diagonal. LED daytime running lights in the bumper provide a lower and wider stance.

S60 and V60 models get Ixion 19-inch wheels as an option while the XC60 gets the 20 incher. The rear of the cars are characterized by a diffuser with aero fins and R-Design circular tailpipes. In addition, the S60 and V60 R-Design cars can boast of their R-Design chassis which is lowered by 15mm and has 15% higher spring stiffness.

Moving to the interiors, sport seats come standard featuring an embroidered R-design logo. Buyers can also specify their cars with full leather seats.

As in the updated range, the R-Design Volvos feature the Adaptive Digital Display (ADD) with three modes - Eco, Elegance and Performance. The stainless steel tread plates also bear the "R" logo.

Engines on offer are the entry level 115 bhp D2 diesel engine (not available on the XC60 R-Design) and the 3.0 litre T6 turbo petrol motor which churns out 301 bhp. An option to pump up the power of the T6 to 329 bhp by purchasing a Polestar software which tweaks the engine mapping is also given.

The T6 engine has 0-100 kph acceleration times of 5.9 secs in the S60 R-Design, 6.0 secs in the V60 R-Design and 6.9 seconds in the XC60 R-Design respectively.

R-Design models will be available in all markets that sell the standard versions and the Swedish automaker is expecting 10% of its customers to opt for them in the future.
