Brazilian factory celebrates the roll out of the 1.5 millionth VW Fox

It was double the portion in celebrations at the Volkswagen factory in Pinhais, Curitiba (Brazil) with the 14th anniversary of the plant and the roll out of the 1.5 millionth VW Fox for the Brazilian market falling on the same month. One of the best selling hatchbacks for Volkswagen in the world, the Fox is the entry-level car that is expected to be replaced by the Up! in the next two years.

The jubilee car was a Prime 1.6 variant, the most expensive model in the lineup, painted in red color. The factory is operating in three shifts, and the 2.1 million copies of the Fox have been made, including exports. The plant is one of the busiest, employing 10,000 workers, directly and indirectly.

The Volkswagen Fox clocked 167,710 units during the year 2012 in the domestic market, an increase of 38% compared to 2011. Furthermore, the car is the second most exported by Volkswagen of Brazil, with 420,000 units shipped to 62 countries in its 10 year history. The Fox was replaced by the Up! in some of the markets that it was exported to under the name Lupo. In an earlier interview, VW India had ruled out the launch of the Fox to go below the Polo, price and segment wise.

The Fox is available in Brazil with 1.0L and 1.6L Flex fuel engine options. Its a front wheel drive car, with the engine accessed via a 5-speed manual transmission.
