VW Tiguan arriving in April in India, VW Passat to follow in July - Report
Both models to have premium pricing over rivals.
Volkswagen confirmed last week that it would launch the VW Tiguan and VW Passat in India this year. Autocar India reports that the VW Tiguan will reach the showrooms in April and the VW Passat will go on sale in July.
The VW Tiguan showcased at Auto Expo 2016 had the 132 kW (180 PS) 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine paired to the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. It was a 4MOTION all-wheel drive model. The model arriving in the market will have a 2.0-litre diesel engine which produces 177 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Like the model seen at Auto Expo, it will get a 7-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.
The VW Passat displayed at Auto Expo 2016 was in the "GTE" plug-in hybrid variant that packs the 115 kW (156 PS) 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine with an 85 kW (115 PS) electric motor to produce a system output of 160 kW (218 PS). The commercially available model will use the EA288 177 hp 2.0-litre diesel engine, however. The plug-in hybrid variant is still on the cards and may hit the market at a later date.
