Volvo Car Corporation senior vice-president Lex Kerssmakers has confirmed to Australian motoring website GoAuto that the brand will show a new concept car at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show (or NAIAS 2014) which begins on the 13th of January for the media.
This would be the second of three announced concepts featuring the new Scandinavian design philosophy penned by designer Thomas Ingenlath who took charge as the company's design vice president last year.
Ingenlath designed the Concept Coupe to put the "plain vanilla" days of Volvo behind, and the second concept car would come with similar pretensions.
Kerssmakers also tells the publication that a premium compact SUV (GoAuto calls it the 'XC40') to compete against the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 is firmly on the agenda, and would be previewed in the future with a concept. However, the concept car waiting on the wings for the Detroit Show is a different vehicle, he added.
The Volvo executive says no plans are drawn up for the production of the Concept Coupe, shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, even though the car was well received. Volvo made the concept to test elements like interior design, proportions and exterior design and have no plans to produce it at the moment.
