MQB-based TT sheds over 50 kg and is packed with new tech.

The third generation Audi TT, which had its global premiere at the Geneva Motor Show this year, was snapped testing in Mumbai by a reader of MotorBeam. The two-seat sportscar is to launch in India next year, as told to Indian Autos Blog by company sources.

The new TT's profile is largely similar to the outgoing model.

Compared to its predecessor, the new TT is packed with technology, both outside and inside. The lightweight MQB platform on which its based has helped shed 50 kg, which in turn has helped in the efficiency and performance departments. The 2.0 TDI variant for example returns 23.8 km/l with a CO2 emission of 110 g/km, "a record low level in the sportscar world," says Audi.

The highlight of the TT's cabin is the instrument cluster which doubles up as an infotainment display.

Inside, the TT is the first product from the VW Group to get the new digital instrument cluster which apart from giving system readouts (speedo, tacho etc.,) also doubles up as the navigation screen (with 3D maps). A further highlight is to be found on the AC vents of the new TT, which have in-built controls for the temperature control system.

Speaking to Indian Autos Blog at the Paris Motor Show, Audi’s member of the Board of Management and head of Technical Development, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, said that he was very happy with the initial response the new TT has received.
