2015 Suzuki Alto (JDM-spec) spotted in India with 0.66L engine - Spied
Based on a new and lightweight platform.
Suzuki launched the eighth generation of its popular 'kei-car', the Alto, in the Japanese market in December 2014. Just a few months into its Japanese launch, the 2015 Alto has come under the lens in India, though a launch is not expected to take place in the country.
A search on import-export website, Zauba.com, reveals that Maruti has imported four units of the new Alto for R&D purposes. These R&D cars may be used for testing new parts or components, or for local study by Maruti's engineers. However, the JDM-spec Alto would not be launched in India, as Maruti already offers the Alto 800 and Alto K10 which suit Indian market requirements.
The JDM-Alto is based on an all-new platform, and is lighter by 60 kg compared to its predecessor. Power comes from a three-cylinder 0.66-liter gasoline engine capable of 48 hp, or 51 hp with a VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system.
Suzuki offers three gearbox choices on the Alto - a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) and a CVT. Available with 2WD and 4WD, the new Alto has economy claims ranging from 25.2 km/l to 37 km/l.

The Alto measures all of 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, and 1,475-1,500 mm in height (depending on the variant). Suzuki also plans to launch a more powerful Alto Turbo RS with a 64 hp engine in Japan in the coming months.
