According to CAR magazine, the upcoming Audi Q1 crossover will borrow design cues from their range of crossovers, Sportbacks and Avants (their translation for estates).

The final design will mix elements from crossover, Sportback and Avant models.

Codenamed "AU276", the German brand had already teased fans with a sketch of the Q1 to give an insight as to how it may look like. The British magazine also reports that the Q1 will be as big as a three door A3 hatchback and will integrate some hardware components from the bigger Q3.

The design of the Q1 was nearly complete before Marc Lichte took over as the design chief. Still, the new design chief got to work on new design packages for the model that will spawn derivatives, like the S, RS and Executive Line. Other unique design elements include contrasting sideblades (like the R8) that cover the C-pillars, underbody protection, large rims, and a prominent concave section that runs above the door handles across the side panels.

The Q1 will have 'sporting' design influences.

Under the hood, the Q1 is expected to feature the engine lineup from the Volkswagen Group's MQB family. Petrol engines include a 140 bhp 1.4 TFSI, a 180 bhp 1.8 TFSI and a top-of-the-line 230 bhp 2.0 TFSI. Also part of the engine lineup are diesel engines like a 150 bhp 2.0 TDI and a more powerful 184 bhp 2.0 TDI.
