The Smart Fortwo Cabrio has had its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Measuring 2690 mm, 1660 mm and 1550 mm in length, width and height respectively, its body has been reinforced due to the lack of a fixed roof, and gets stronger A-pillars and front and rear bulkheads, resulting in a 15 percent stiffer body.
The convertible gets a unique “tritop” folding fabric roof that can be optioned in three colours and be opened half way or all the way, making for a wind-in-the-hair experience. It can open electrically in 12 seconds even with the car going at its top speed.
The power for the Cabrio is provided by a pair of 0.9-liter three-cylinder petrol units producing 71 hp (52 kW) and 91 Nm, and 90 hp (66 kW) and 135 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a ‘twinamic’ dual clutch transmission.
The Fortwo Cabrio comes with various safety systems with the standard offering being ESP with Crosswind Assist and hill start assist. Systems that can be bought optionally are forward collision warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
