Redesigned, more mature Ford Fiesta due next year.

The seventh generation Ford Fiesta is currently under development in Europe and expected to be unveiled in the first half of 2017. Here's a speculative rendering from IAB's automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania previewing the 2017 Ford Fiesta's front-end.

2017 Ford Fiesta front-end rendering
The seventh-gen Ford Fiesta will be based on a reengineered version of the current model's global B-platform.

As depicted in the rendering and suggested by the car's spy shots, the 2017 Ford Fiesta features a design that sticks to the current model's roots. The incoming vehicle is expected to feature cues borrowed from the latest Ford Fusion and Focus, consider the redesigned for radiator grille for instance.

The next-gen Ford Fiesta will be based on an evolution of the current model's B-platform. It will be bigger than the current model (UK-spec) which measures 3,969 mm/3,982 mm in length, 1,978 mm in width (with door mirrors) and 1,495 mm in height. It was rumoured that the hatchback would be available only in 5-door form, but spy shots have confirmed that a 3-door has made it to development. The Fiesta four-door should be included in the range in later years.

The next-gen Ford Fiesta ST, it is reported, could swap the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a highly-tuned 1.0-liter three-cylinder Ecoboost engine. Current Ford Fiesta ST200 pictured.

The 2017 Ford Fiesta will get turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines in Europe. The range-topping Fiesta ST will continue with the same 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit, but with more power and less emissions. For those looking for a little luxury, the Vignale trim level will be available right from launch. Interestingly a report in September said that Ford may use a highly tuned 1.0 Ecoboost engine on the ST variant.

In markets outside Europe, the new 'Dragon' engines could be made available in the next-gen Fiesta.
