Mercedes-AMG G 63 sold out in India for 2018 - Report

Overdrive reports that Mercedes-Benz India has managed to find buyers for all the units of the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 allocated to India this year. The latest generation of the iconic SUV was launched in India on 5 October 2018.

Underpinning the latest-gen Mercedes-AMG G 63 is a new ladder-frame chassis that is wider than that of the last iteration.

Encouraged by the high sales potential of the new model, Mercedes-Benz India is said to be working towards obtaining a higher allocation for 2019. The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 has a more dynamic character than other models in the G-Class range. It features a Panamericana grille, which is typical of all new AMG models.

Highlights of the stying package include an AMG front bumper, 21-inch alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, side-pipes, and red brake callipers. The interior features a Nappa leather upholstery, Widescreen Cockpit with two 12.3-inch displays - one each for instrumentation and infotainment, and turbine-like aircon vents.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 is powered by a twin-turbo engine that delivers a maximum power of 585 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 850 Nm at 2,500-3,500 rpm. In comparison, the last generation model featured a 5.5-litre V8 powerplant that delivered 41 hp and 90 Nm lower output.

The high-strung turbo-petrol motor comes mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Buyers also get a rear-biased AWD (40:60) with three differential locks, independent front suspension and adaptive adjustable damping.

The latest generation Mercedes G63 AMG is 53 mm longer, 64 mm wider and 15 mm taller than its predecessor.

The 2018 Mercedes G63 AMG is claimed to be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and can register a top speed of 220 km/h. There are five on-road drive modes on offer - Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. Furthermore, the driver can select from three off-road drive modes - Sand, Trail and Rock. A 'Race Timer' feature allows the driver to measure and store the lap times. The safety equipment comprises 9 airbags, Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist are standard. Moreover, Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring System.
