2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 launched in India, priced at INR 2.19 Crores
The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 has been launched in India for a price of INR 2.19 crores (ex-showroom). The latest generation of the iconic SUV replaces the earlier iteration that was introduced here in February 2013. It is sourced via the CBU route.
Typical of an AMG, the G 63 differs from the other G-Class models with a more dynamic character. The most prominent styling element of the SUV is the Panamericana grille, which has become the new AMG signature. Other exterior highlights include AMG front bumper with large side air inlets, 21-inch alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, exposed sidepipes, red-painted brake callipers and ‘V8 Biturbo’ lettering on the front wings.
Inside, the AMG main menu on the instrument cluster informs the driver when the cylinder deactivation system is in use and whether the M178 4.0L bi-turbo V8 mill under the hood is operating in the partial or full-load range. The cabin features a new nappa leather upholstery. The highlight of the dashboard is the Widescreen Cockpit that comprises two 12.3-inch displays - one each for digital instrumentation and infotainment unit running the MBUX operating system. The air vents have a turbine-like appearance, which is in line with the company's latest interior design theme.
The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63's twin-turbo engine delivers a maximum power of 585 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 850 Nm at 2,500-3,500 rpm. Compared to the 5.5-litre V8 powerplant of its predecessor, it delivers 41 hp and 90 Nm more. Other key specs include 9-speed automatic transmission, rear-biased AWD (40:60) with three differential locks, independent front suspension and adaptive adjustable damping.
