The trademark twin headlights incorporate a hexagonal pattern to give an increased sense of sharpness and replicate the recent new generation BMWs’ design detail. The BMW kidney grille is larger, and a single-piece surround encompasses its various elements.

At the rear, the 2019 BMW X1 apparently has the same tail lamps but with new graphics. Inside, the covered infotainment system hints a new display. The 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster found in recent BMWs hasn’t made it to the Audi Q3 rival even with the facelift.

With the mid-life update, the BMW X1’s plug-in hybrid variant is said to go global. The powertrain of this variant, called ‘25Le (based on LWB version) in China, uses a combination of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine (136 PS/220 Nm) and an electric motor (95 PS/165 Nm). The electric motor gets its juice from a 10.7 kWh lithium-ion battery. The plug-in hybrid variant is capable of going solely on electric power up to 60 km. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic are the transmission choices available in the electrified variant.
