As BMW continues working on a facelift for the second generation X1, there's been yet another test mule sighting in China. The latest spy shots give a clearer view of the exterior and interior of the new model.

The facelifted BMW X1 will have minor design alterations that bring it closer to the latest design cues seen on other BMW X models. The latest spy shots show it featuring more angular twin headlights with a revised cluster design and a more assertive look for the kidney grille. The lower grille and bumper design also could be new.

On the sides, the only new thing the 2019 BMW X1 will have to flaunt will be fresh alloy wheels. At the rear, BMW has tweaked the tail lights slightly using a clear-lens strip for the turn signals in its bottom portion. Inside, as noted previously, the compact SUV is devoid of a fully-digital instrument cluster. The updated m0del could be offered with new upholstery options.

It seems like a fully-digital instrument cluster will be introduced in the BMW X1 in only the third generation.

The BMW X1 is sold with 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options globally. It's unknown whether the entire existing range will be continued. Exclusively in China, customers can go for a plug-in hybrid powertrain instead, which was extensively upgraded just last month. The pure electric range delivered by this drive system has gone up by a whopping 83% to 110 km now. Availability of this highly frugal powertrain could be extended to global markets with the mid-cycle refresh. There's no word on the launch timeline. In India, the Audi Q3 rival in its current form is priced from INR 35,20,000 (ex-showroom).
