Yamaha is reportedly working on not just one Sports Heritage models but two. The first one of this will be the Yamaha XSR155. Besides that, a report from GreatBiker suggests, a retro-styled motorcycle based on the Yamaha R3 is in the works. The new bike will be called Yamaha XSR300 and will be launched after the XSR155.
Yamaha’s Sports Heritage range at present includes two design philosophies, XSR (café racers) and XV (scramblers). First reports of a Yamaha XSR300 came way back in 2016. Back then, a Japanese motorcycle magazine Young Machine published a render of the bike. The styling will include a rounded headlamp, circular taillamp and a similarly styled digital instrumentation. A teardrop styled fuel tank will also bear a similar familiar design.
Suspension duties will be administered by 37 mm upside-down telescopic fork in the front sourced from KYB. That would be the same unit as seen in the 2019 Yamaha R3. The rear section will get a monoshock with adjustable preload. Braking duties will be performed by disc brakes and ABS as an added safety net.
If Yamaha XSR300 (or Yamaha XSR250 for certain Asian markets) enters production, it will borrow the powertrain from the Yamaha R3 (and the Yamaha R25). The 321 cc mill from the Yamaha R3 produces 42 PS of power and 29.6 Nm of torque. The gearbox will be a 6-speed unit. Yamaha engineers, though, may tune the output for more grunt in low and mid-range. The seat will be a single unit, while the frame will be the same diamond type unit from the R3. The swingarm will also be the same unit to keep development costs under check.

In India, Yamaha is striving to become a major manufacturer (in terms of volumes). It is upgrading their line-up to include only premium products. In fact, it recently axed the R15S, Fazer 150 and SZ-RR v2.0.
