We've been raving about the Audi Q6 for a year now. It will be an SUV that is made to pick up a fight with the BMW X6 and Mercedes' yet to be launched MLC Class.
These cars will form a new breed, which was first started by the BMW X6, a coupe-crossover which has the looks of the Coupe blended with the stance of an SUV.
Audi's Q6 SUV will be based on the all-new Audi Q5 which will start its life in 2016. The Q5 was first introduced in 2008 and Audi have refreshed the SUV recently as well. Which means that it has another three years of life left in it before the next generation model takes over.
The next generation Q5's platform will be flexible enough to accommodate the Q6 as well, reports German auto news provider Automobil Woche. Production of the next generation Audi Q5 will commence by 2016. And a year later, in comes the Audi Q6.
Production of both these cars could happen at the facility in Martorell in Spain. This is the plant that currently makes the Audi Q3, which is imported into markets like India as a CBU.
Meanwhile, Audi is deeply contemplating a Q2 and a Q4 as well. It is to be noted that Audi's initial market survey hints that the space between the Q3 and the Q5 is not vast for a separate model.
