Speaking about the upcoming electric-powered motorcycles, KTM Industries AG said:
In June, KTM Industries and Bajaj Auto decided to launch a development project series for powered two-wheeler electric vehicles in the performance range three and 10 kW (48 V) at the KTM AG level. The platform will support various product variants -- powered two-wheelers and electric bicycles -- under both partners' brands.
The upcoming electric motorcycles will be produced at Bajaj Chakan plant. KTM Industries AG added:
Production of the series will begin by 2022 at Bajaj’s production location in Pune. The required (product) development budget is covered in the medium term planning. This will represent a significant step in strengthening its cooperation with Bajaj.
The upcoming electric range of products from the Indo-Austrian partnership will benefit from KTM’s existing experience in the field of electric motorcycles and Bajaj Auto’s efficient manufacturing setup. Local manufacturing will also bring FAME-II subsidy along with the lower GST rates and tax benefits. KTM’s current electric portfolio comprises just one product – the FREERIDE E-XC off-roader that features wire-spoke wheels with knobby tyres, long-travel suspension and tall ground clearance.
In the short term, KTM will expand its India portfolio with the launch of the new 790 Duke by next month. The highest displacement KTM naked roadster has started to reach dealerships in the country, and the unofficial bookings for the motorcycle have already commenced. Apart from the 790 Duke, the upcoming list of products for the Indian market include the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Svartpilen 401 and the much-awaited 390 Adventure.
