The petrol-powered Bajaj Urbanite test mule seen here is almost entirely camouflaged. However, close inspection reveals a bump on the front fender that could be a chrome garnish aimed at enhancing the retro styling. The new scooter will have a single-sided front suspension with anti-dive, a feature that was also seen in its leaked sketches. While the spy shots show a disc brake at the front, the leaked sketches had shown a drum brake. Front disc brake will most likely be an optional feature.

Anchoring department will include a disc brake at the front, which will most definitely be an optional extra. The vehicle is likely to use a drum setup as standard. Apart from the front suspension, the leaked sketches also revealed the drum braking hardware on the front wheel.

The headlight isn’t clearly visible in the latest set of spy images, but a previous sighting had revealed that it will have a pentagon-shaped curvy design. The rear will comprise a split-style taillight layout. The instrument console is likely to pack a semi-digital display while the switchgear, like select Bajaj and KTM range of products, should use a backlit display.

The saddle appears to be spacious enough to accommodate two adults comfortably, while the pillion grab rail should offer plenty of grip to the passenger.

The mechanical specifications are yet to be revealed. We expect Bajaj Auto to target the growing 125 cc segment with its petrol-powered scooter. The 100-110 cc space is heavily dominated by the Honda Activa 110.

The retro-styled upcoming Bajaj Urbanite product with the petrol engine will compete against the likes of Vespa 125 and Suzuki Access 125 in our market. It is likely to be exported to select markets.

The launch details are scarce now, but we expect to hear an announcement towards the end of this year or early next year. Bajaj may revive the Chetak brand for its upcoming scooters. The Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer has reportedly shortlisted three brand names - Chetak, Legend and Stride.
