BMW India's next important launch, the BMW 7 Series facelift, has been launched, not in India, but in Malaysia. The 7 Series was unveiled yesterday to the Malaysian media following its mid-2012 international debut, and here are pictures and details from our friends at PaulTan.org.
Three variants of the Life Cycle Impulse 7er are available to the opulent Malaysian customer, the entry-level 730Li, followed by the 740Li and the ActiveHybrid 7L that sits as the flagship. From March 30, the updated 7 Series will be ready for deliveries, and like here in India, its only offered in long wheel base.
To recap, the BMW 7 Series facelift features new all-LED headlamp assembly, new kidney grille, reshaped bumper apron and indicators integrated into the external mirror housings. At the rear, a chrome trim strip is integrated near the tail lamps and the incoming model is about 8mm lower than the previous car in ground clearance. Not sure if the last feature is Indian road-friendly.
Stepping inside, the well designed cabin receives new appointments in the form of redesigned leather seats, new iDrive hardware and individual screens for rear passengers that are 9.2-inches wide.
The only engine option available for Malaysia is the 3.0 litre six-cylinder in-line TwinPower Turbo that puts out 258 hp and 310 Nm in the 730Li, and 320 hp and 450 Nm for the 740Li. India would understandably buy the 7 Series by the handful with the diesel motor (730Ld).
Sources confirm that BMW has started assembling the new 7 Series at the Chennai plant. It is only a matter of time now before we see the updated model hit showroom floors in India as well.
