The BMW X2 concept made its debut today at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, which opened for the media today. The long-rumored X2, which debuts as a concept today, is expected to launch in Europe in the second quarter of 2018 and will share platform, parts and powertrain with the BMW X1.
Speaking about the design, BMW says that the X2 concept is a vehicle for "active people looking for a combination of enjoyment and practicality". Designers have used the "fast-moving body language and low-slung proportions of a coupe with the robust construction of an X model" to create the X2 concept.
While BMW did not detail the specifications or dimensions of the X2 concept, it confirmed that the crossover rides on 21-inch light-alloy wheels, and features a panoramic roof and the brand's laser light technology.
According to media reports, the BMW X2 which goes by the internal codename F49, when launched, will ride on the front-wheel drive UKL platform, which also underpins the Mini range and the BMW X1. Engine choices could start from as small as 1.5-liter three-cylinder units, and extend to 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, featuring BMW's TwinTurbo technology.
