BS-VI 2020 Bajaj Platina makes spy photo debut

The BS-VI 2020 Bajaj Platina has been spied for the first time. Thrust Zone has published spy shots of the updated model that was spotted undergoing testing around Pune.

The only camouflaged part on the test mule was the fuel tank. As seen in the spy photographs, the BS-VI model will not be drastically different from the BS-IV model. The 2020 iteration of the motorcycle will continue to use halogen headlight at the front. Surprisingly, the new model seen here doesn't feature fly-screen mounted LED DRL, unlike the current model.

The fuel tank, although camouflaged, can be seen with a raised chrome filler cap on the top. The saddle continues to be a single-piece unit with a flat layout. The alloy wheel design on the test mule does not match the units on the current Platina 100 or Platina 110 motorcycles. Instead, the vehicle in the spy photograph uses a relatively simpler layout. Thus, the bike in the pictures could be a new base variant of the Platina family.

The hardware specifications include conventional front suspension with fork gaiter and twin-sided springs at the back. Anchoring specifications include drum brakes on both wheels. The safety net will comprise Bajaj Auto’s Anti-Skid Braking system (combi-braking system – CBS).

The engine, on the other hand, will witness bigger upgrades. For starters, the updated motor will pack a fuel-injection system along with other sensors to comply with new emission norms. Bajaj Auto may upgrade both the engine variants – 100 cc and 110 cc – to BS-VI. The performance numbers are not likely to be much different from the current models.

For reference, the existing 102 cc air-cooled, 2-valve, DTS-I engine with ExhausTEC makes 7.9 PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 8.34 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. The 115 cc air-cooled, 2-valve, DTS-I motor with ExhausTEC on the Platina 110, on the other hand, delivers 8.6 PS at 7,000 rpm and 9.81 Nm at 5,000. Bajaj Auto will most likely offer the 110 cc variant with two gearbox options – four-speed and five-speed. The Platina 110 with the five-speed gearbox should retain the H Gear branding.

The next iteration of the Bajaj Platina will pack fuel injection technology and other sensors to comply with the BS-VI norms.

Bajaj Auto is yet to announce when it will start launching BS-VI models.
