Dhananjay Amberkar has snapped a camouflaged test mule of the Mahindra Quanto facelift which is reported to be named the Mahindra Canto. The model is expected to debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida in February. It will be presented shortly after the Mahindra Imperio that is scheduled for launch on January 6.
The Mahindra Canto gets a new front fascia that is less similar to the Mahindra Xylo, the MPV it is based on. The revised snout features new head lamps with LED DRLs, a new front grille reminiscing the the XUV500 and the KUV100, a restyled front bumper, redesigned tail lamp clusters, new alloy wheels and fresh body colour options. In short, the new iteration of the chopped-Xylo seems to have transformed more into an SUV.

Powering the Quanto is expected to be the new, mHawk80 three-cylinder 1.5-litre diesel engine that was introduced on the TUV300, instead of the current motor - the 1.5-litre mCR100 diesel. The mHawk 80 produces 84 hp and 230 Nm on the TUV300. The Canto will be offered with an AMT version with the same automation system as on the TUV300. The standard transmission unit will be a five-speed manual.
