Report - Chevrolet Adra mini SUV to launch NOT before 2017
The Chevrolet Adra mini SUV concept showcased at the Auto Expo in February will not have its market launch before 2017, according to GM executive vice-president, Stefan Jacoby. From now until then, GM India will be focussing instead on sprucing up its current products like the Chevrolet Sail U-VA, Sail, Cruze and Enjoy.
The Adra was announced by GM India as a concept that was "developed entirely by Indian designers at GM Technical Center in Bangalore". On investigation, we learn that the Adra concept was designed with inputs coming from GM's Australian design center.
The Australian media report that the Adra concept was a collaboration between GM's Australian and Indian design operations, and that the show car was constructed in Melbourne, Australia.
The Adra concept measured under 4 meters in length sporting peeled back headlights, a twin grille layout and decent ground clearance. When it enters production, the Adra will rival the Ford EcoSport.
While GM had no comment on the platform or engine options, the Adra will have to use petrol engines smaller than 1.2-liters while the diesel motor will have to displace below 1.5-liters to avail small car tax benefits.
