Chevrolet Trax is General Motor's answer to Ford EcoSport. The car will go by the name Tracker in Brazil.

The compact crossover SUV is a blood relative of Opel Mokka and is based on the same platform as the Chevrolet Sonic and Onix, the latter quickly became one of the top selling cars in Brazil.

Our good friends from NoticiasAutomotivas.com.br have spotted the disguised test mules of the Chevrolet Traker suggesting that the mini SUV has Brazil at the top of its agenda for 2013. The car is right now manufactured at GM's Mexican plant and Brazil may likely be the second home since bilateral trade agreements between Brazil and Mexico are not conducive for a CBU import.

The Brazilian version of the SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.8 litre engine that powers the Cruze and is most likely to be built at GM Brazil's Gravesend facility where the Onix is being built.

The Tracker will be positioned in such a way to compete with the higher end models of the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster considering the fact that the car will be big engined and will be loaded up to the gills with equipment.

The Chevrolet Tracker would be an appropriate image and volume boosting product for India, especially considering our new found fondness towards the compact SUVs. However, GM India is presently occupied in launching the Sail sedan and Enjoy MPV and ensuring that the Chinese trio (Sail U-VA included) gets a strong foot hold in India.
