DC Design is arguably India's most prominent name in the field of vehicle customisation. The Dilip Chhabria run company is looking to strike a deal with a mainstream car manufacturer to raise money for its operations, reports Business Standard.

DC Design is in discussions with automakers in India concerning capital infusion to help expand its reach in the market.

Speaking to the publication, the automobile designer said -

We are looking for a capital infusion because of an explosive growth we are seeing in the automotive industry. As we have a unique position in the market, we thought why not take an advantage.

Chhabria added that the valuation of DC Design would dictate whether he decided to cede a majority or minority stake to the investor. The proposed capital infusion will help DC reach more customers, thereby supporting the company to play a more significant role in the Indian car scene. He is hoping to finalise a deal over the next couple of months, preferably with a car manufacturer with a widespread dealership network in India.

Dealer-level car customisation has been gaining strong traction since 2015. Manufacturers have started offering a wide range of options including body kits, decals, accessories, and alloy wheel options. Tata provides body kits and accessories like a sunroof for the Nexon and even lets customers configure their car online before placing an order. Maruti offers similar services for multiple models including the Swift, Vitara Brezza, and Dzire. Working in conjunction with a mainstream car maker will help DC Design expand its footprint in the vehicle customisation space.

DC Design is involved in not just car interior and exterior customisation but has extended its reach to two-wheelers, vanity vans, utility vehicles, and even aircraft interiors. The company built an entire production model from scratch, the DC Avanti, a two-seat sports car. The company showcased an evolution of it at the Auto Expo in February 2018 called the TCA.
