Apart from the production-spec RS 660, Aprilia showcased the Tuono 660 Concept at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Just like the RS 660 is based on the RSV4, the Tuono 660 Concept is derived from the Tuono V4 1100.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 Concept shares its frame, suspension and engine with the Aprilia RS 660. The Tuono, however, features a more road-friendly rider's triangle.

The Tuono 660 Concept is based on the RS 660 – a strategy that we see on the 1100 (RSV4 and Tuono V4) models. Thus, the Tuono 660 Concept uses the same frame, suspension and the engine as the RS 660. The naked roadster, however, is inclined to road use, and it thus packs upright ergonomics that are achieved with the use of large and wide handlebar.

Unlike most of the naked roadster motorcycles, the Tuono V4 received some windblast protection in the form of a semi-fairing design, and the Tuono 660 carries similar genes. The Tuono 660 Concept retains the triple LED front light assembly with perimeter DRL lights from the RS 660. The middleweight concept also benefits from the double fairing with aerodynamic appendix function for enhanced stability at high speeds. The fairing layout, similar to the RS 660, aims to divert the hot air from the engine away from the rider.

Mechanical specifications include a 660 cc parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, Euro-V compliant engine with DOHC and 270-degree crankpins. The same motor pumps out 100 hp on the RS 660. The new motor is derived from the front bank of the 1100 cc V4. Aprilia says that the Tuono 660 Concept is for new riders, and thus it will be available in a 34 kW (45.5 hp) version. The company will also offer a 95 hp version of the middleweight roadster motorcycle. In comparison, the production-spec RS 660 is tuned to deliver 100 hp from the same mill.

The Aprilia 660 project aims to deliver an excellent power-to-weight ratio, and thus the Aprilia RS 660 and the Aprilia Tuono 660 (currently in concept form) pack a light aluminium frame that uses the engine as the stressed member.

Key features on the concept motorcycle include adjustable suspension and Brembo-sourced braking system that uses 320 mm discs at the front with radial-mount callipers. The production-spec model will most likely retain the setup.

The electronic safety net on the Tuono 660 Concept is derived from the APRC platform that is also used on the RS 660. The APRC electronic controls, which work with a six-axis inertial platform, feature Aprilia Traction Control, Aprilia Wheelie Control, Aprilia Quick Shift (both up- and down-shifts), Aprilia Engine Brake, Aprilia Engine Map, Aprilia Cruise Control and a Multimap Cornering ABS.

Similar to the RS 660, the digital TFT colour instrument console can communicate with a smartphone through the Aprilia MIA application. Bluetooth connectivity will be available as an optional accessory.

The engine of the Aprilia Tuono 660 Concept (95 hp) makes relatively lower power output than the Aprilia RS 600 (100 hp).

We may see the production-spec Aprilia Tuono 660 in 2020, most likely at next year's EICMA motorcycle show, if not earlier.
