Flagship Mahindra SUV set to launch in three months - Report
Mahindra is working on three new UVs, one of which is a new flagship SUV - the Mahindra Rexton. According to a report from The Economic Times, this model will arrive in three months.
The latest development was revealed by Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive Sector). In an interview with the business publication last week, he said that the Mahindra Rexton’s launch will take place in “2-3 months from now.” SsangYong had announced in February that it will start shipping the Rexton to India in CKD kits in Q3 2018 (July-September 2018). Mahindra & Mahindra will assemble at the Chakan plant which makes the XUV500.
The Mahindra Rexton will have a different nose from the G4 SsangYong Rexton to have some resemblance to the Mahindra PV family. As seen at Auto Expo 2018, the Mahindra-badged Rexton will come with a radiator grille comprising vertical slats in chrome finish and high-gloss black finish, high-gloss black radiator grille frame and chrome bonnet applique.
The G4 SsangYong Rexton is available in 5- and 7-seat versions, but Mahindra has shown its Rexton in only the 7-seat version. The biggest Mahindra SUV employs a 2.2-litre diesel engine good for 181 PS and 420 Nm. Mahindra should offer it with a Mercedes-Benz-made 7-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system as standard.
It is worth noting that the SsangYong-badged Rexton is available with many options, including a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 265 PS and 350 Nm of torque, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions and rear-wheel drive drivetrain layout.
Mahindra will offer the Rexton or the 'Mahindra XUV700' as the blogosphere likes to call it, with HID headlamps, LED DRLs, electric sunroof, ventilated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electric parking brake, nine airbags and more.
