In July 2018, Harley-Davidson announced a four-year strategy update for the global markets, which included a new small-displacement motorcycle with an engine capacity of 250cc. IAB's visual illustrator, Shoeb R Kalania has created a digital rendering of the Harley-Davidson Street 250 (possible name). Note that Harley Davidson has not confirmed the style or the brand of the low displacement vehicle.

The artist has taken design inspiration from the elder Harley Davidson Street 750. Staying true to its lineage, the Harley Davidson Street 250 rendering features muscular proportions. The motorcycle uses a double cradle chassis that is supported by telescopic forks up front and twin coil-spring shock absorbers at the back. The Street 250 features a round headlamp with a huge neo-retro fairing, a kidney-shaped fuel tank and a single-piece seat. The bike is equipped with short fenders at both the ends.

The Harley Davidson Street 250 rides on 10-spoke alloy wheels that are paired with chunky tyres with massive side walls. Braking duties are handled by single disc brakes at both the ends with standard dual-channel ABS. Aiding the ergonomics on the cruiser are the forward-set footpegs and a wide & raised handlebar.

In classic Harley Davidson fashion, the Street 250 is powered by a 250cc V-Twin motor with a liquid cooler. While it's too early to speculate on the engine specs, we expect it to generate peak torque in the ballpark of 30 Nm. The motor is likely to be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle will feature a two-into-one exhaust setup.

In the domestic market, the Harley Davidson Street 250 could rival the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa classic and the upcoming small-capacity Triumph cruiser and the Benelli Imperiale 400. We can expect the Street 250 to cost upwards of INR 2 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The motorcycle is likely to be launched in India in 2021.
