The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is being showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The model, which premiered last year, marks the return of the Africa Twin brand that has been resurrected after twelve years since the original model, the Honda XRV750 Africa Twin, was phased out of production.

The all-new CRF1000L Africa Twin features a new 998 cc twin-cylinder engine with a Unicam, four valves and a 270-degree crankshaft, that produces 94 hp (70 kW) of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and 98 Nm (72.3 lb-ft) of peak torque at 6,000 rpm.

The motor is equipped with two primary balance shafts and an assist slipper clutch. The transmission choices include a six-speed gearbox and a new Dual Clutch unit (automatic). The DCT variant can be operated in manual mode by using buttons on the left switchgear console. The motorcycle features switchable rear ABS and multiple-mode Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), in the manual as well as the DCT variant.

Honda has mentioned that this new engine is capable of delivering a range of up to 400 km (248.5 miles) with a full tank of fuel which is 18.8 litres (5 gal). The wheels are spoked, of sizes 21-inch at the front and 18-inch at the rear wheels, shod with tubed tires. The ground clearance is 250 mm (9.8 in). The kerb weight of the 2016 Africa Twin is 228 kg (503 lb) in the standard specification. The ABS variant is 4 kg (9 lb) heavier and the DCT version weighs 14 kg (31 lb) higher than the standard.

The 2016 Honda Africa Twin is already on sale in some European markets, at a price of EUR 12,100 (INR 8.64 lakhs).
