Honda Rebel 300 will not be HMSI's Royal Enfield challenger - Report

The Honda Rebel is globally retailed in three engine options, Honda Rebel 250, Honda Rebel 300 and Honda Rebel 500.

Honda India’s plans to take on the Royal Enfield range will involve a new motorcycle and not the Honda Rebel 300 reports MoneyControl. The bike was first showcased along with its bigger engine cousin Honda Rebel 500 in November 2016.

The Honda Rebel 300 is powered by a 286 cc single-cylinder mill sourced from the Honda CBR300R. The engine is capable of producing 30.86 PS of power and 27 Nm of torque in the faired motorcycle. The report cites an unknown source who said

We have the 300cc cruiser called Rebel selling in the US which also has a 500cc variant. So, it is not that we do not have any experience. This is a new category which is growing very fast not just in India but overseas as well and Honda needs a product solution for it

Honda is the country’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer and retailed more than 5 million units in the last financial year. Domestic sales in the same time stood at 4,725,067 units of which 3.35 million units were of the Honda Activa family. The company has shown no hesitance in entering new segments with products like Navi and the Cliq from the last 18 months.

The Honda Rebel 300 gets an aggressively raised front end, mid-mounted footpegs, fat 16-inch tyres and a retro-modern look. The bike retails in the US for USD 4,399.
