60% of Hyundai Carlino's R&D to come from India - Report

Autocar India reports that Hyundai India's R&D team will contribute around 60 percent for the development of the production-spec Hyundai Carlino. The sub-4m SUV is expected to hit Indian showrooms in 2018.

Previewed by the Hyundai Carlino (Hyundai HND-14) concept at the Auto Expo 2016 that was designed by Hyundai at their Namyang design center in Korea, it features squarish taillights, large rugged wheels, suicide doors, front and rear skid plates, roof carriers, side air intakes, and sleek headlights with LED daytime running lights.

Reports suggest that it will pack a 1.0-liter GDI petrol engine as well as a small displacement diesel option, when it enters production. It's unclear as to what platform the sub-4m SUV will end up being based on.

When launched in the country, it will rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, and the recently unveiled Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. It will also attract a wide audience towards Hyundai’s strong SUV lineup, which comprises of the soon-to-launch Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Santa Fe.
