An unidentified IndianAutosBlog.com reader sent us snaps of the upcoming Hyundai Eon. Hyundai will launch the Alto slayer on the 13th of this month with a 814cc three-cylinder petrol engine producing 56 PS @ 5,500 RPM and 75 Nm @ 4,000 RPM.
These images could have been snapped as the vehicle was being unloaded from a truck on a public road. But let's move our attention from the location of the car to the car itself.
The Eon does not look or feel like three lakh rupee car. Add a slightly more powerful engine and the Eon could give a tough fight to the i10 category players. The quality, fit and finish are unreal for a car at this price point. Maruti has to be worried until their new 800cc car is ready.
The customer has not seen dual tone interiors, driver-side airbag, remote key entry, option-rich audio player, sophisticated design and many more segment-first features at such rock-bottom prices from a respected brand like Hyundai. The Eon will be retailed in six colors (one of which is Maharaja Red, we're told).
Reading through the (speculative) features that have appeared on various enthusiasts sites, the Eon has the ingredients to topple Alto, but what could have been the nail in its coffin is a sub-1 liter CRDI diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger delivering close to 30 kmpl. How about 30kmpl for 3.5 lakh rupees? Hyundai, are you listening?
