We are back with another restoration job that saved a Yamaha RX100 from an ill fate. Prateek Khanna who owns Bluesmoke Customs has restored the motorcycle. When he discovered the piece, the paint had faded, logos missing and the engine leaking oil. Apart from saving this two-stroke maniac, Prateek gave it an RD 350 sourced instrument console that replaces the stock, boxy unit.

Loads of chrome ensures a retro look while a different paint gives the motorcycle a refreshed look. The new colour is complemented by white graphics and Yamaha logo on the fuel tank. Surprisingly, the bike dons a 350 badge on the side panel. Following the discussions with Prateek, we understood that the motorcycle features stock displacement.

Chrome treated bits on the motorcycle include headlight mask, blinker housing, crash guard, horn cover, fuel filler cap and twin-sided exhaust pipes. Close inspection reveals that a step-up saddle on the restored motorcycle has replaced the stock seat. The oil leakage issue was addressed by rebuilding the engine. The motor also received new piston crank and rings.

The ‘before’ and ‘after’ photograph reveals that wire-spoke units replaced the alloy wheels. Unlike some of the previous restorations that we saw from Bluesmoke Customs, this Yamaha motorcycle is equipped with black coloured wire-spoke wheels.

Braking department has received an upgrade as the restored Yamaha RX100 packs a disc brake at the front that should offer better stopping power. The rear continues to feature a drum brake. Shock absorption tasks are continued to be performed by conventional telescopic forks at the front and twin-sided springs at the rear. The rear springs get a black finish.

Mechanical specifications remain in stock tune, and the Yamaha RX100 continues to use a 98cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke engine that delivers 11 HP (8.206 kW) of maximum power at 8,500 rpm and 10.39 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a four-speed gearbox.

The restoration job is commendable, and Prateek deserves a round of applause for saving a retro-classic.
