The name of the Porsche Mission E concept’s production version has been revealed. The company has announced that their first ever EV will be called Porsche Taycan. The future EV has been already confirmed for India.

Porsche says that ‘Taycan’ means the equivalent of ‘spirited young horse’, which is a reference to what lies at the heart of the Porsche crest. Announcing the name, the company has even released a teaser video that reveals that the Porsche Taycan features a fully digital instrument cluster - a first for a Porsche.

The Porsche Taycan (codename: Porsche J1) is based on a dedicated electric vehicle platform. It will measure around 4.85 metres in length, 1.99 metres in width and 1.33 metres in height. It will have two highly capable electric motors, one powering the rear axle and the other the front axle. The two electric motors will deliver a combined output of over 600 PS (440 kW). With this setup, Porsche claims that the Taycan will complete a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds and take just under 12 seconds for a 0-200 km/h speed run.

Reports have said that three AWD configurations in varying outputs are planned for initial launch, followed by a cheaper RWD configuration. The customers will have different battery pack options. Porsche has confirmed that it has planned some variants of the Taycan now, but it is yet to release any details.

The Porsche Taycan will debut the company’s 800-volt charging system called Porsche Turbo Charging that offers ultra-fast charging. With this system, the car’s battery pack will take only 4 minutes to get charged up to the capacity required for a 100 km range. Porsche claims a maximum range of over 500 km for the Tesla Model S rival.
