After the Jeep Compass, the next locally made Jeep SUV planned for India is reportedly the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade would expand the brand's line-up to four models in the country. Previously this model was expected in 2018, but according a new report, the launch is programed for the second half of 2019.
The Jeep Renegade was introduced in 2014 to tap the booming B-SUV segment. It competes with the likes of Kia Soul, Fiat 500X, Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Chevrolet Trax internationally. By the time it is on sale, it will have reached the mid-point of its lifecycle. FCA India, going by reports, will bring it here directly after it receives a facelift internationally.
Just-Auto speculates that the 2019 Jeep Renegade will be the recipient of a larger infotainment screen. FCA could rework the lane-change and parking alerts for quieter operation. Overall feel of the interior could step up with the mid-cycle action.
The Jeep Renegade is based on FCA's small wide platform. It measures 4,236 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,667 mm (4x2)/1,697 mm (4x4 Trailhawk) in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. Engine options include 1.4-litre MultiAir2 petrol, 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol 2.4-litre MultiAir2 Tigershark petrol, 1.6-litre E.TorQ petrol-ethanol, 1.8-litre E.TorQ petrol-ethanol, 1.6-litre MultiJet II diesel and 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel.
The Indian-spec 2019 Jeep Renegade will share the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engines with the Compass. While the Compass gets the 173 PS (170.56 hp) version of the 2.0-litre diesel engine, the Renegade may settle for the 140 hp version of this engine.
