The Jeep Renegade has been spotted testing on Indian roads once again. The image was sent by readers Ankita and Snatak who managed to capture the heavily camouflaged test mule in Pune. The Renegade is touted to be Jeep's next big launch in the Indian market.
Jeep has been testing the Renegade in India since January 2016, which has fueled speculations of its launch ever since. According to latest reports, the Jeep Renegade will arrive in India in the second half of 2019 in a facelifted avatar.
The Renegade is the smallest SUV in Jeep's arsenal and is based on the platform of the Fiat 500X. When launched, it will be positioned below the Compass and will rival the Hyundai Creta. A 1.4 L Multiair petrol and a 1.6 L Multijet diesel could be the engines that power the Renegade in India. In its current form, the Jeep Renegade is 4,236 mm long, 1,805 mm wide and 1,667 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm and a boot capacity of 354L.
Like the Compass, the Renegade is likely to be manufactured at the Ranjangaon plant. Jeep will be aiming for high levels of localization to achieve a competitive pricing. Jeep could also give the plant in India greater scale by starting exports to RHD markets like it does with the Compass.
FCA India would also be carrying out component testing for future products with the Renegade as the test mule. One such model is a new compact SUV smaller than the Renegade. The B-SUV rumoured to arrive in India to compete with the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza, is said to based on the X6H platform.
