Autocar reports that Kawasaki is likely to showcase the Kawasaki Ninja 400 at the 2018 India Auto Expo in February.

Just like the Ninja 300, the Ninja 400 is also a sporty tourer.

If Kawasaki decides to launch the bike, it is likely that it will replace the Ninja 300. Expect the upcoming bike to command a premium over the Ninja 300’s INR 3.64 lakh price-tag (ex-showroom, Delhi). If launched, it would rival with KTM RC 390, Benelli 302R and the TVS Apache RR 310 in the segment.

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 carries Ninja styling inspired from the mighty Ninja H2 and Ninja ZX-10R, such as the chin spoilers at the bottom of the front cowl, triple-peak motif of the tail cowl, and the LED tail light design. The headlamp is LED as well, and comes with dual low and high beams. Kawasaki has employed the multifunction analogue-digital combo cluster from the Ninja 650. The ergonomics are sporty, but relaxed enough for long-distance riding. The bike made its global debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

Powering the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is an all-new 399 cc inline twin engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The powerplant generates 45 PS at 10,000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. The engine mates with a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. The power plant sits inside an all-new high-tensile steel trellis frame.

The motorcycle has ABS as standard, unlike the Ninja 300 in the Indian market.

Cycle parts include 41 mm telescopic front fork, and bottom-link Uni-Trak rear monoshock with adjustable preload. For braking, the motorcycle employs 310 mm front and a 240 mm rear petal discs. The 17-inch alloys are shod with 110-section front and 150-section rear Dunlop radial tyres.
